BODY CONFIDENCE
To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don’t wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now.
-Alan Cohen
Being short, it has taken me a while to be comfortable with my body. It was easier throughout grade school and high school because all the girls thought I was cute and adorable, which I was, and they would boost my self-confidence. That all got washed away as soon as I went to college.
Girls weren’t looking for cute and adorable anymore. They were looking for confidence, manliness, and sexy. My confidence came by accepting that I can’t change my height. Still, I can work on many other things to increase my confidence—such as body physique, charisma, wittiness, learning to create extraordinary conversations, humor, and eye contact.
SIDE NOTE: Eye contact is a small but powerful tool, especially for my fellow shorties out there. It shows high levels of confidence within yourself because not many people have the ability to maintain eye contact. It creates a lot of discomfort to do this. Start practicing holding eye contact for longer than what feels comfortable. There is a duration of eye contact that can come off as creepy, but I’m pretty sure you don’t have the ability to reach this. So hold eye contact as long as you can until you feel the discomfort that arises with doing it, and continue the eye contact even longer.
Humor and wittiness have always been my strengths, and when looking for your confidence, it’s imperative to double down on your strengths while working on your weaknesses. But be gentle with yourself when working on your weaknesses.
Too many people are looking at the micro when history shows that good things take time. Tony Robbins taught me that just 2 millimeters of work put in each day could amount to something massive over time! You need to implement micro and macro views.
Now I have been handed down a new card at thirty, and that card is the bald card, so if I hadn’t been working on my confidence all these years, my shortness combined with being bald would put a lot of guys into a depression.
Get comfortable with who you are, and learn to love yourself! Look at yourself naked in the mirror and tell yourself that you love every single centimeter of yourself because you have no other choice! Do this every day! Build a relationship with all the things you wish you were able to change; see them as opportunities to stand out rather than fit in.
People are trying to fit in when it’s the ones that stand out who can thrive. In this new creator economy, it will be a competitive advantage if you become comfortable with your uniqueness. Stop looking at other people and wishing you were them, had their body, their hair, or yada yada. The truth is, those people who you fixate over are doing precisely the same thinking as you are and wish they could change something about themselves!
Stop! Love yourself! You are unique, and when comfortable with your body, your confidence will outdo that person you wish you could be tenfold.
Side Note: There are so many fake people you can compare yourself to, and by doing that, you will always be too hard on yourself. Instead, focus on Today’s You vs. Yesterday’s You. This is the only comparison you should ever make of yourself.
A study came out saying the odds of being a human being are 400 trillion to 1! You could wish for a different this and that, but you have to look at it from another perspective. You should be so ecstatic that you even have the chance of being a human being! You are a miracle! Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity you have before you.
Bonus: Once you have genuinely trained your brain to love every single flaw about yourself, then there will be no such thing as a bully because whatever attempts to make fun of you, you laugh along with them since you have built a relationship with that flaw. You are so comfortable in your skin and are well on your way to complete self-confidence. Also, who gives a fudge brownie what other people think of you. Keep that fudge brownie because brownies are good af!
